Preparation
The solid round bars are machined (peeled) to remove any
surface imperfections.
Cutting
Bars are cut into shorter lengths called billets based on profile weight per
foot and desired extruded length. Radius machined on one end to facilitate
the extrusion.
Heating
Induction furnaces and controlled atmosphere heating of billets to a temperature
appropriate to the quality of the steel.
Extrusion
A modern horizontal hydraulic press with a capacity of 2400 tons extrudes bars
of up to 52 feet in length with complex sections, solid or hollow, designed
within a maximum diameter of 7.87 inches.
Finishing
To ensure dimensional accuracy, all products require straightening, detwisting,
and punch straightening. Surface cleaned by blasting and/or pickling. Final
product then cut to customer specified length, inspected, bundled, and packaged
for overseas transportation.
